Unter 9 Exoskelett-Merkmalen zeigen das Ende des Aedeagus und die Skulptur
der Elytren eine starke Differenzierung zwischen Populationen beider Formen, die aus weit von
einer Kontaktzone entfernten Regionen stammen (untersuchte Populationen: purpuraseens aus
den Pyrenäen und der Normandie, violaceus aus Nord- und Nordost-Deutschland, Polen und
Rumänien). In Südwest-Niedersaehsen wurden Populationen beider Formen als auch Populationen
festgestellt, die sich durch intermediäre Werte des Aedeagus und der Elytrenskulptur auszeichnen.
Das Auftreten solcher Populationen zeigt eine Hybridzone in dem Untersuchungsgebiet
an. Für eine weitergehende Beschreibung der Hybridzone (z. B. ihre geographische Ausdehnung)
in Südwest-Niedersachsen und anderer Kontaktzonen müssen die beiden trennenden Merkmale
in weiteren Populationen analysiert werden. Nichtsdestoweniger zeigen die isolierten und teilweise
von purpuraseens umgebenen vio/aceus-Populationen (Eifel, Schwarzwald), daß beide Taxa
eine Mosaik-Hybridzone in Mitteleuropa ausbilden. Die postglaziale Populationsgeschichte beider
Formen und ihrer Hybridzone wird diskutiert.

Among 9 exoskeletal characters investigated, the end of the aedeagus and the sculpture of the
elytra show a strong differentiation between populations of both forms sampled in regions far away
from a contact zone (populations studied: purpuraseens from the Pyrenees and Normandy, violaceus
from northern and north-eastern Germany, Poland and Romania). In south-west Lower Saxony,
populations of both forms as weil as such charaeterized by intermediate values of the aedeagus
and the elytron seulpture have been deteeted, indieating a hybrid zone in the study area. For a more
exaet description of the hybrid zone in south-west Lower Saxony (e.g. geographie dimensions) and
of other eontaet zones, the two differentiating eharaeters should be analyzed in additional populations.
Nonetheless the violaceus populations, whieh are isolated and partly surrounded by purpurascens
("Eifel", Blaek Forest), indieate that both taxa form a mosaic hybrid zone in Central
Europe. The postglaeial population history of both taxa and of the hybrid zone is discussed.
